Training sessions kick off in Kazan ahead of Masters tournament

The 16th FINA Masters World Championships are about to start on August 5 and will run until August 16. 45 athletes have already arrived in Kazan within two days.

About 2,639 athletes representing 71 countries are expected to arrive. Masters athletes will be accommodated in the Athletes’ Village.

The programme of the Masters tournament includes five aquatic sports: open water swimming, synchronised swimming, diving, water polo, swimming. Athletes’ ages range from 25 to 100 years old. The Championships will start with synchronised swimming events on August 5 – 10, open water swimming – on August 7, water polo and swimming – on August 10 – 16, diving – on August 12 – 14.

The athletes who are already here in Kazan have started their training.  The synchro swimmers are scheduled to start their practices on August 2. A total of 35 athletes from 11 countries take part in this event. 376 swimmers from 17 countries competing in open water event are about to begin training on August 4. The last starting date for swimming and water polo practices is August 7. 63 countries are represented by 2,000 swimmers whereas 26 countries have sent 429 water polo players to the Masters tournament in Kazan. As for the diving event 73 athletes representing 22 countries will compete for medal spots on the podium. 

The competitions will take place at 5 sports venues: Aquatics Palace, Kazanka Venue, swimming pools Burevestnik, Olymp and Akcharlak.

The maximum number of contested medal standings within the 16th FINA World Masters Championships is 635.
