Preparation for the 2015 FINA World Masters Championships was on the agenda of the meeting that took place in the headquarters of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects in Kazan on November 25.

Present at the meeting were Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects Azat Kadyrov, 1st Vice-President of the Swimming Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan, Master of Sport and Masters tournament participant Erik Akchurin, Chairman of the Idel Masters Competitive Swimming Club, participant of eight World Championships and nine European Masters Championships and multiple winner of Masters tournaments Alexey Kameshkov, world record holder, world Masters champion, European Masters champion and Director of the Kazan Tennis Academy Ravil Nogumanov, Chairman of the Judges Panel at the Swimming Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan Lev Kameshkov and others.

"Today, at the Directorate's office, we have the most active supporters of the Masters movement in Tatarstan. We've invited them to attend the meeting with the Organising Committee of the upcoming tournament. We want everyone - athletes, organisers, spectators - understand that it's a very popular and large competition, both in terms of significance and size. Two previous tournaments - in Italy and Canada - brought together a great number of competitors, most of them being swimmers. The curious thing is that it's the sporting event where athletes come not only to compete but to meet each other again, to socialise. Today's meeting is very important, so are separate consultations," Erik Akchurin said.

The Masters tournament participants shared with the Kazan 2015 OC team their impression of previous tournaments' management and special aspects of such functional areas as Accreditation, Transport, Meet and Greet Services, Accommodation, Medical Services, Volunteers, Sports Venues and Fields of Play. It was agreed that the same meeting will be held anytime soon at the Aquatics Palace, one of the venues of the forthcoming tournament.

"It's great to see that Kazan has so many athletes who are regular Masters tournament participants. We will arrange such meetings on a systematic basis. Staging of championships where professional athletes take part is a new task for Kazan that has experience of hosting high-profile competitions and it is one of key events for us for now. The registration procedure kicks off in early 2015," said Secretary General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Ranko Tepavcevic.

As we reported earlier, Kazan will be the first city where the Masters tournament will be hosted right after the FINA World Championships. It will be held between August 5 and 16 and will feature around 6,000 competitors from 110 countries. Athletes will compete across 14 age categories in five disciplines: swimming, open water swimming, synchronised swimming, water polo, diving.
