Top executives of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) – FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione and FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu – are on a visit to Kazan on January 23-25. On Sunday, January 24, they were honoured by President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, during an official ceremony at the Kazan Kremlin.

A 2,212-strong team composed of volunteers of the Republic of Tatarstan, 20 regions of Russia and 10 countries of the world contributed their time and efforts to the delivery of the 2015 FINA World Championships. 12 world records were set by the world’s top athletes at the aquatics tournament in Kazan but the team of volunteers can be proud of the records of their own that they managed to achieve by staging the best FINA World Championships ever.

Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Azat Kadyrov, took questions from the Press Office of the Kazan 2015 Organising Committee and named key factors of the successful delivery of the FINA World Championships in Kazan. He also shared his ideas regarding the reason for numerous world records that were set both by participants of the main event and the Masters tournament.

The 16th FINA World Masters Championships have come to an end. Kazan has made it into the history hosting two FINA World Championships almost at the same time. As we’ve stated earlier, the 16th FINA World Masters Championships were held in Kazan from August 5 to 16. The athletes competed in five different aquatic disciplines: swimming, open water swimming, synchronised swimming, water polo and diving.

John Deininger, who has represented Lithuania at the FINA World Masters Championships in Kazan, started competing in 1974, in the 35-39 age group. At present he’s 76 and he has already earned 3 gold medals at this tournament.

Mel Goldstein, Vice Chairman of the FINA Masters Committee, has taken part in the 50m backstroke event. After winning the final water polo match at the World Masters Championships, two-time Olympic medallist and renowned water polo player Marat Zakirov sat down for an interview with a sports reporter of the Kazan 2015 OC’s Press Office. He admitted that he’s always happy to be back to Kazan and to see how the city is changing its appearance.
